Joker Wild

Suspense #490, "Joker Wild," presents a chilling portrait of celebrity comedian Harry Malloy, a man desperate to prove he's more than just a clown. After 22 years of making audiences laugh, Malloy has grown obsessed with being taken seriously. To demonstrate his capacity for tragedy rather than comedy, he carefully plans and executes a shocking act: he picks up a lonely young woman named Rosalie, lures her to a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and pushes her to her death. Malloy believes this murder will prove to himself that he's capable of creating something darker and more profound than mere laughter.

However, Malloy's sense of accomplishment quickly turns to frustration when days pass without any mention of Rosalie's disappearance in the newspapers. Her body hasn't been found, and no one knows what he's done. For a performer accustomed to public recognition, the anonymity of his crime becomes unbearable. Unable to contain his turmoil, Malloy seeks out his longtime friend Liz, desperate to share his burden with someone who might understand the man behind the famous comic persona.
